openAIED is a special interest group bringing together researchers across the Open University who are interested in the application of Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED).

Supported by openTEL, an OU Priority Research Area, openAIED aims to coordinate and build upon existing AIED-related efforts across the university, in order to help realise the Open University’s mission (to be open to people, places, methods and ideas).

openAIED prioritises both the technological and human dimensions of AIED.

Technological dimension of AIED

  • AIED in online distance learning
  • AIED to personalise learning
  • AIED to support teaching

Human dimension of AIED

  • Scientific robustness
  • Social consequences
  • Critical reflection

“openAIED” was launched by Dr Wayne Holmes and Dr Duygu Bektik, from the Institute of Educational Technology; and is supported by Maria Di Gennaro and Catherine Pibworth from the Institute of Educational Technology’s openTEL. Current members include Dr Nashwa Ismail and Francisco Iniesto.
